The Origins of Diabetes

It's a fact - medical researchers are still trying to figure out exactly what causes diabetes. There are cases of diabetes dating all the way back to 1500 B.C., and in all that time, medical science has been unable to discover the precise cause of the disease.

Because of it’s complexity, diabetes is a very misunderstood disease and today is often mistreated. Most diabetics become confused by the conflicting information they receive from their doctor, friends, family, the media and other diabetics. Often this guidance is contradictory in nature and can make managing the disease both confusing and frustrating. For this reason depression is rather common among diabetics.

But despite all the gloom, there is a mix of both good news and bad news. The bad news is that you have a chronic degenerative metabolic disease that, if not properly managed, can cause you to go blind, destroy your kidneys, cost you a limb or even cause an early death.

The good news is that you live in an age when medical researchers are uncovering entirely new forms of treatment that have been shown to postpone the complications commonly associated with diabetes, helping you to live a fuller, longer, complication-free life.

It’s often said that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. When it comes to a dangerous disease like diabetes, an ounce of prevention is worth a ton of cure. It’s a great deal safer and easier to prevent dangerous complications than have to deal with them later on down the road.
